About The Artist
Alison Rees born 1970 is a London-based ceramic artist renowned for her innovative use of porcelain to create wall-based compositions that explore abstract narratives of self and place. Her work is deeply influenced by themes such as wayfaring, repetition, and the language of the paper page. Developed through extensive PhD research, she pioneered a unique ceramic form—the "clay page"—that combines the material properties of porcelain with the conceptual frameworks of Modernist abstraction and the overlooked aspects of everyday life.
Rees's artworks often feature delicate, thin clay surfaces layered with coloured slips and glazes, arranged in grids or frames to evoke a sense of order and tension. Her aesthetic merges subtle variations in form and colour with an emphasis on lightness and minimality, offering a modern reinterpretation of traditional ceramics.
