Hutt Pop-Up at Jigsaw
In March 2024, Hutt brought a two-month pop-up to Bristol, taking over a space within Jigsaw. The project introduced a selection of 20th-century art and design into a contemporary retail setting, creating an environment where pieces could be experienced in a more informal, everyday context.
The collaboration felt like a natural fit. Jigsaw’s focus on quality materials and considered design aligned closely with Hutt’s approach to sourcing—prioritising pieces with a strong sense of form, texture, and longevity. Set within the Bristol store, the collection was positioned to sit comfortably alongside fashion, encouraging a quiet crossover between interiors and personal style.
For the pop-up, Hutt developed the window display and a series of in-store arrangements, shaping how the collection was experienced within the space. The display was revisited throughout the two months, with pieces moved and restyled as works sold and new combinations emerged.
The selection focused on modern and late 20th-century works, with an emphasis on texture, form, and tonal balance. Paintings, ceramics, and sculptural objects were brought together to create a sense of cohesion, while still allowing individual pieces to stand on their own.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the project was seeing how people responded to the work in a retail environment. The setting encouraged a different kind of engagement—more informal, often more immediate—and offered a useful perspective on how objects are encountered outside of a gallery context.
The temporary nature of the pop-up brought a sense of movement, with the display shifting over time rather than remaining fixed. This felt in keeping with Hutt’s broader approach—collections that evolve as new pieces are sourced and new contexts take shape.
The Jigsaw Bristol pop-up marked an important step in bringing Hutt into a physical space, and a chance to explore how the collection sits within a lived, everyday environment.
