The Hutt Approach: Creating Homes with Character & Meaning

Sourcing with Purpose

Sourcing was at the heart of Hutt. I searched for pieces through antique fairs, auctions, specialist dealers and private collections, selecting artwork, furniture and objects that could bring warmth, individuality and a sense of place to a home.

I believe the strongest interiors come from the relationship between different pieces — combining antique, 20th-century and contemporary works to create contrast, balance and character.

Restoration and repair were also an important part of this approach. I enjoyed working with skilled craftspeople to carefully restore and adapt pieces, allowing well-made objects to continue being appreciated within contemporary homes.

Set up by Mollie Riach, Hutt was built on a belief that the most interesting interiors are created through thoughtful choices — combining art, furniture and objects that reflect personality, craftsmanship and a sense of history.

I have always been drawn to pieces with lasting appeal: objects with strong design, quality materials and a story behind them. Rather than creating spaces that feel overly styled, my approach has always been about bringing together pieces that feel personal, layered and collected over time.

Values Beyond Design

Alongside sourcing art and design, I wanted Hutt to have a positive impact beyond the objects themselves.

I was committed to making more considered choices wherever possible, from using recycled and reusable packaging materials to reducing unnecessary waste.

Supporting charitable causes was also an important part of Hutt’s values. The business supported Choose Love, an organisation providing support for refugees and displaced people around the world.

I have also enjoyed volunteering locally in Bristol, including with The Mazi Project, which supports disadvantaged young people in the city.

A cause particularly close to my heart was supporting the protection of stray dogs in Morocco. The Moroccan rugs sold through Hutt helped contribute towards this work through the ongoing efforts of my friend and collaborator Julie, who works to improve the welfare of animals in Morocco.

Creating Hutt was always about more than sourcing beautiful pieces. It was about celebrating craftsmanship, making thoughtful choices and creating a positive impact wherever possible.
