Artist Biography – Bertil Wallman (1913–2011)

Bertil Wallman was a Swedish painter and printmaker celebrated for his modernist still lifes and coastal landscapes. Born in 1913, he studied at the Valand School of Fine Arts in Gothenburg, where he developed a strong foundation in figurative and abstract composition. His contemporaries included artists such as Ragnar Sandberg and Endre Nemes, both of whom influenced Wallman’s painterly approach and exploration of colour and light.

Throughout his career, Wallman exhibited widely across Sweden and the Nordic region, with solo and group exhibitions at institutions including the Gothenburg Art Association (Göteborgs Konstförening) and the Konstnärshuset in Stockholm. His works are represented in several Swedish museum collections, notably the Gothenburg Museum of Art and the Malmö Art Museum.
