Artist & Provenance
The Artist is unknown however the painting has been re-lined and not been examined out of the frame so further investigation could prove fruitful. However, the painting carries provenance from The Millinery Works, London, and was acquired from the collection of James (Jim) O'Connor, the long-term partner of celebrated British artist Edward Wolfe RA (1897–1982). Wolfe was a key figure in the Bloomsbury Group and an associate of artists such as Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell.
This connection suggests a possible link between the painting and the London art circles of the mid-20th century, known for their expressive colourism and bold composition. The title Still Life with Lovers appears on a gallery label, possibly indicating a previous exhibition history.
