Description
Layers of paint and mark-making build a quietly powerful composition in Dyad 1. A palette of butter-cream and earthy browns defines the surface, structured by two rectangles divided by vertical bands of deeper brown. Beneath these painted bands lie two lead strips, their metallic presence adding weight and subtle depth to the work.
The title “Dyad” reflects the idea of duality — two elements in dialogue or contrast. In Dyad 1, Sax Impey uses the vertical bands to both separate and connect the main forms, creating a balance of tension and unity. The painting invites reflection on how contrasting forces meet and coexist — calm and storm, light and dark, human and sea.
From a distance the work reads as serene and whole; close viewing reveals layers of process, materiality and restraint.
