George Popperwell (b.1935) Oil & Assemblage Artwork

George Popperwell (b.1935) Oil & Assemblage Artwork

£0.00

Original 20th Century Artwork by the British/ Australian Artist George Popperwell

Popperwell’s work has been Internationally exhibited and is widely collected.

Signed on the verso. Circa 1960.

The artwork is an intriguing piece of assemblage with two wooden forms encased in canvas whilst the back board is encased in hessian painted with a deeply pigmented black oil paint. The surface is then punctuated with protruding nails, strips of canvas and a splattering of slashes deliberately worked across the canvas.

The piece has age related wear with two nails that appear to be missing based on the tiny holes showing where they once were it is hard to say if they were removed by the artist or if they are losses at a later stage. The supporting frame is sound and well built to support the piece with two large iron braces across the back.

I have a second piece by George Popperwell available which complement each other as shown in one of the photos. They are sold individually.
